The Mission

As my lungs grasped for air, I thought to myself how did get in this situation. To think 3 weeks ago I was training for this BIG mission!
I have to try on all the gear the; parachutes, titan all the straps, fit both helmets and check that the walkie talkies work

Then we march onto the plane....

Megan's Sky Diving Story

City Jump

As they gathered the gear, it got darker. The it got the more they wanted to collapse but they couldn't stop now. Bombs dropped behind them and smoke cover the sky. They were running as fast as they could, trying not to trip over the twigs that they were stuck in the ground! They finally got to the plane and fell down on the ground puffing and panting. They instantly fell asleep.

To be continued...

Pou (Totem Pole)

In Room 14 we are designing a Pou (Totem Pole) that will go into our native area. We started off by looking at some designs to get some ideas.

Then we had to sand it back so that it was nice and smooth. Here are a few pictures of us sanding.

Our next step is to paint a white base coat...Watch this space for more pictures of our progress.

Native Area Inquiry

Inquiry Update: We have been working on a native area brief at the back of the school for the past term to attract native birds to our school. We decided to do this after our school camp and got inspired by Zealandia and decided to the same.We have just organised the ordering, now we are waiting for an answer (if all of the plants we would like are in stock). We are hoping to get them all by the end of the week if we can't it will put our planting back a week. We have ordered 102  plants, one plant for each senior to put in. Hopefully the planting will start next week.

Cultural Art

In Room 14 we are working on cultural art. You design six drawings that represent you, like where you are from, what you like and your hobbies. We are doing drafts first in our inquiry book using pencil, then we get a small square piece of paper. When we are done we will glue our art onto a big black piece of paper.

Here is a draft of Kaitlynn's artwork. Keep checking out our blog for the final piece.

Super Six

On Tuesday morning the Super Six tournament started with an opening ceremony at the Sports Park. Miss Kittow, Mrs Pearse, Hayley, Maua, Aroha, Innika, Courtney, Amy, and I were playing Netball. The super six Netball rules are played like the intermediate rules using the big hoops, quarters were 10mins not 15mins and holding the ball for 3 seconds not 5. We played 5 games and won 2 of them. We had lots of fun and enjoyed playing in a tournament because it was our first year there and it challenged us. We came 6th out of 14 team so we were proud of ourselves.

We also had Mr Chatfield take some lucky boys to super sixes at the sports park to play some barefoot rugby in a competition for schools. This was also a trial to see if we would do this again next year. These boys were Oscar, Jayden, Lockie, Dylan, Henry, Vikta, Ethan, Robbie, Arnie, Yuri and Isaiah. We almost got into the semi final for our pool but we didn’t make it because we lost against Te Mata School. It was a great challenge playing against all of the schools. We had to work well together and have lots of fun!

Using the Compensation Strategy in Maths

W.A.L.T: Solve multiplication problems by taking some off or putting some on (compensation).

In Maths at the moment we are learning what compensation means and how we can use it. Here is a video to show you how we solved 58x3 using the compensation strategy.

Clive Pools Slideshow

This Term all the Team 3 children were given the opportunity to have 10 swimming lessons at Clive Pools with trained instructors. They loved their time at the pools and got a lot out of their lessons. Here are some photos to show you what they got up to while we were there.

Plane Vs Scientist

Tuesday 8th of September

My name is Daniel Lagaaia. I am a scientist discovering new life when all of a sudden...BEEP BEEP BEEP! The planes going down. Brace for impact! I was flying to Samoa when the plane I was on starting smoking and breaking into pieces in front of my eyes.

Crash! There was smoke every where but we landed in water so it went down easily. I checked to see if there were any more survives but it was only me. There was 1 survivor out of 16 and that 1 was me. I Scratched around the island to see if there was any food to live off. As I slowly got weaker my body begins to shrivel up and the more I starve the worse it gets.

I start to slowly die. With no fresh water or food I'm pretty much done for. I would like you to remember me as a normal person, a scientist who loved to discover new things, yes just a normal person...

My Crazy Adventure

Hi my name is Jessica Bloom, I travel all over the world just to take photos of wild life and nature! I live in all sorts of different places but I was born in England on November 25th in 1996. I am 19 years old. At the moment I am on a cruise ship about too make my best MASTERPIECE, a nature magazine.

I was taking photos and then CRASH! The boat smashed into a rock everyone had too evacuate the ship. Me and some others , went the wrong way in the life boat... it took forever too find an island, the others got dizzy and thought they saw an island and swam closer to their picture. No doubt they're gone. I saw an island, I did not feel dizzy so I went closer... I could feel the hot boiling sand tingling between my toes making me itch. I lie there helpless, until something hits my feet.

I looked at it, it was a bottle with paper inside. I took a pen out of my pocket and started to write. A couple of days went past, still nothing to eat. It looked dark, I threw the bottle in to the ocean like a person diving in deep. I dug a little bit of sand and lay down. Hours went by I heard a noise...

Chit Chat Chit. I looked up, a helicopter. They must of got my note.

Card Games for Math

In our class room we have been using cards to help us with our basic facts. The game helps us answer quicker and is a lot of fun.

You pick a buddy, grab a pack of cards and find a place to sit. You then half the pack and flip one card at a time. The first person to add both numbers together and get it right, wins that round and keeps the cards.

At the end once all of the cards have been used you add them up, and put your score and name on the board.

Mini Maths Workshops

In Room 14 we have been doing mini workshops which include using the box strategy, arrays, pictograph, multi-step questions and number lines to subtract. At the beginning of the day you choose a workshop that you would like to focus on for that particular maths session.

The teachers of the group have a series of questions that the students have to answer. Some students get to be a teacher, they get to roam around their group asking questions like "Why did you do it that way? How would you solve it? Can you explain your answer to me?

The teachers model it for the students first so they know what they are doing. Then they hand out the sheets and the lesson begins with the first question.

You cant pick the same workshop every time because you need to learn different strategies and techniques. If you already know the strategy its probably a good idea to refresh your mind. You also have your friends around you to help when you get stuck, but the teacher is probably the best idea.

Room 14 Bloggers

Our names are Esther and Kaitlynn and we will be your Room 14 bloggers for the rest of Term 3. We really love getting feedback and comments on our blog posts, so if you have time please leave us a message that we can share with our class.

We look forward to hearing from you!

The Beast

THE BEAST
As I spy through the lens of the camera I can spot something lying in the grass, its the BEAST! As I think in my head I remember back home how they treat me, how sad I normally am. Once I get this photo they'll treat me so much better.

As I click the button on the camera I heard a noise, I checked the photo. All I could see was a wet black nose, a drooly soggy red tongue and long floppy ears. OH NO!!! My-My-My PHOTO!

I felt breathing on my tiny little neck. Its behind me isn't it... Wait a minute that looks like my dog Gary, did you drink the giant potion again Gary?

The Camera

As I gaze through the lens I can see... colourful figures and dancing shapes running through the night sky, silhouetted against the falling sun.

I stare wondering which angle to shoot it from. I want to get it perfect as it only happens every 100 years. The music pounded in my ears as I tried to concentrate.

I look at the big white and red canvas billowing in the wind as it slowly began getting darker and darker as its colours faded. People spoke about this magical tent which becomes like a shadow as the night grows darker. People spoke of this magical party, it certainly was mysterious.

In the Darkness

In the darkest part of town my brothers were throwing rocks a peoples windows. I covered my ears because the screams were very loud.

I walked away with loneliness in my heart. I climbed up a pipe that led me to the top of the building. The moon light shone on my body when I stood on the edge of the building.

Then I saw a flickering light in the cottage below. I stated to tippy toe towards the cottage, the sign screeched in the swirling whirling wind. I jumped the steps, and walked inside. I heard a snoring sound, I looked around and saw a man sitting on his chair so I climbed onto his chest, he started to sneeze so I blocked his nose.

I saw a beautiful candle, tall and fair, she looked at me and I smiled. I walked up to her and touched her face, I frowned she burnt me.

Suddenly I back away with fear, it all came back to me, the man, the blow out. She turned her head then she turned to see...I was gone.

I walked back to the building top, my brothers still playing, the burn still stinging. Peering through a crack I saw that she had been blown out, I gasped. In a flash, I ran back to her, I hugged her tightly. Then I heard a THUMP! I turned around and saw a body lying there. It looked just like mine.

It was her, I picked her up and hugged her tight.

Oscar's Battle Field

It was a boiling day but I could hear airplane engines roaring in the sky and airplanes shooting   at each other. Tanks rumbling across the battle field firing their cannons at each other and you could even feel the vibrations.

During the night sir screamed at us saying we need back up now so the men ran outside with their guns and took cover and started shooting.

In the middle of the battle field their are landmines some people got hurt. Everyday people tried to cross over the landmine field, unsuccessfully.

The war is over, its time to leave.

The Battle Field

10th July 1915, I have been here for what seems like years but it has only been two months.
My body tingles with fear. I can hear aeroplanes buzzing up above. BANG! BANG! The airplanes drivers job is to drop bombs all over the place. Right now an aeroplane just dropped down because of all the weight onboard.

I'm firing my gun and thinking the same thing over and over again, will I die? I do not want to die.
I miss my family. Are they ok? I never thought I'd say this but I am really excited to fight in the war now. I don't know why but I just am. BOOMM! SCREAMM! My mate is crying because his brother just got shot by a German in the stomach. I hope that doesn't happen to me. I can taste smoke from all of the fires. There is fire bursting everywhere! I can see airlifts, lots of people dying and sadly animals dying too.

I feel upset, proud and scared all at the same time. Also I feel stressed and worried. One reason is because if we don't win the war our country would be destroyed. Everyone is screaming including me. I am yelling for bombs to drop and for people to fire their guns. I feel around me, muddy but rock hard ground rubs against my fingers. Someone fired their gun and only just misses me. It makes dust go everywhere. I am busy telling an aeroplane to drop that I do not notice a bullet heading my way. I get shot in the arm and I'm rushed into an ambulance and driven away.

At War

The ground starts shaking because of the huge, green Tanks. I hide behind a broken down tree waiting to shoot, feeling absolutely horrible because I'm so worried I'm going to die.

I saw flashes from guns firing bullets that speed past me. The ground is muddy and wet and my feet start to sink. I see people running and getting shot. I saw bodies on the ground and blood. I saw people getting pulled into the rip when they try to swim to shore.

As I jump up to shoot I wonder where my family is. I wonder if they are going to live. I think to myself I can't die and I don't want to die. There are so many things I haven't done yet like ride a roller-coaster, go on a plane, rid a car. So I better live.

I'm extremely scared as I drop to the ground bleeding and then an ambulance comes. I feel the rain pouring on me. And i'm really tired because I didn't get much sleep last night.

My War Journal

9th April 1915, I am sitting in the ambulance driving. Around me planes are crashing, grenades blowing up every thing in their path. I am constantly stopping for people who need medical assistance. Out of the distance I heard a dog whistle, many soldiers used this as a way to communicate with each other. We stop again. The noise is deafening. There are bombs exploding every where, grenades as well. People are abandoning dead trucks, planes `and trenches are being made.

I can smell medicine from the back of the truck, it was spilt a couple of days ago when we went over a rock. You have to scream over the noise. I say to my partner I heard a dog whistle earlier. Where from? from the west she says, lets go! I drove off to the west.

We found him he was being looked after by his brother. It was a wound so we fixed it. He went off with his brother to defend our country.

The day slowly ended.
we went back to base and had dinner.

Thank you for reading my story!
Yours sincerely Esther

Battle Field

15th of July 1915. My leg is wounded i'm in a ditch, finally the other soldiers have found me. They put me on a table with wheels and rushed me to the ambulance.

The nurse put a bandage on my leg. 1 month later I was out and about shooting my enemies like there was nothing else to do except fight for my country.

I felt something vibrating and trees getting smashed over like a giant was kicking them down but it was a TANK!

My team told me to come and jump down in the trench with them so as I did that I shot as many people as I could shoot.

Luckily I saw a huge rocket coming straight to my face, I ducked then I told my men we need to dig our way out of here so we dug as fast as we could.

Once we could all fit in the hole we barricaded the entrance, then we dug for quite a while. We finally started digging up and that was were our base was.

If our enemies came through the hole we would have our guns ready.

It was a hard day today with all of the lost lives. When can we go home? Nobody knows.

Congratulations to our Room 14 PAL leaders

In Room 14 we have 4 very special students that were awarded with PAL certificates at our assembly today. Here's what they have to say about their new role at our school.

Esther

Cole

Tyler

Deluca

A PAL is someone that is trustworthy and responsible. PAL stands for Physical Activity Leader. At lunchtime there will be groups of 2 or 3 people and they get to choose a class to play a game with. The PAL leaders get all of the gear they need to set up a successful game for children to play during their break times.

We went to the Pettigrew Green Arena to train and learn how to sort out problems and learn new games to play.

We are excited to start our new role next term!
